“For a long time I wanted to compile something for the ‘Quake 3 Arena Road Tour’ from 1999. After 10 years have passed since the bus tour, it is time to take a closer look at this road tour. It was a promotional campaign by id Software and Activision, for Quake 3, which was announced at the time but not yet published. Parts of the south and west of the USA were traveled with a huge black bus like rock stars use. The bus housed 8 LAN stations where the players could play Quake III Arena in an advanced version.

The pitch black bus of the road tour ‘Fragmachine on Wheels’ with a length of almost 14 meters was the main attraction, both from the outside and from the inside. On the outside there were huge Quake 3 emblems. Inside everything was waiting for the players to take part in Deathmatch. The bus headed for over 20 cities and the tour lasted a whole 3 months. Gifts and prizes such as mouse pads, T-shirts, plastic cups and small posters were given out at every tour stop…”
