"These days from all around me, I hear of 'windows' and a 'mouse', of brand names, some are 'Apple', wish I knew what it's about. I hear they've some connection, with strange things they call computers, which will give you all the answers, but to me they're just confusers. I've seen folk press some buttons, words appear and sometimes numbers, they seem to spring from nowhere — it surely makes me wonder. Sometimes I've asked a question, they just turn to this machine, press a button here, a button there, they find the answer there, it seems. It's really quite amazing, they don't even have to think, they tell me what I want to know, I don't have time to even blink. One day I'll look right through the window, perhaps I'll see before my eyes, this mouse they always talk about, for he must be very wise." —Hilda B. York, of Millers Point, fascinated by what she reads in Icon, was moved to write this poem, 1998
"That's right, the Strogg have been defeated in every Quake 2 mission pack you've played. Now its many complexes and fortresses are under a new invasion from hoverboarders eager to find some new terrain. Not being one to miss out on this opportunity, I've set up a custom board shop in orbit above Stroggos. From there I build, design, and receive new custom graphics and styles from all over the known inhabited systems. If you know of a style that's not in our selection, we (you and I) can custom make it or have it ordered from some of the most talented people in the business. Custom painted boards start with stock 2.0 decks just released this season."
"Connecting with that community is really what it's all about. QuakeCon is built for it. First, there's the giant tournament … hey, what's a Quake convention without playing a ton of Quake? If you're not beaten to a pulp by the continuous weekend of Quake playing, the stifling Texas heat will probably render you unconscious. If you're lucky, you'll live to make it again next year. If you're unlucky, the giant insects will devour you... Here's to QuakeCon!"
"hi :) i was able to take a vacation during august of 2001. it just so happened that quakecon was going on during august 9 - 12 and that gave me the perfect opportunity to meet some people i've only known online and others i get to see yearly, if that often. the event itself is pretty much a big party and not really my thing, so i stayed with my friends riana and rich and hung out with them. we also stole my friend yoss away from quakecon for a day to hang out with us. here is my collection of pictures that i took. i hope to put some more up once riana and yoss send me the pictures they took."
"hi there, yossman here. i'm still putting this page together, but i've opened up what i do have again. quakecon99 was one of the best events i've ever had the pleasure of both attending and helping out with. it was also a pleasure to take as many photos as i did, the more the merrier. ;) if you see yourself in any of the pictures available here, but don't see your name mentioned in the title of the image, please let me know at firstname.lastname@example.org."
