PlanetQuake: PeeWee Interview TrixieMoo about Chaos

City_Chaos2

As you may have seen, Trixie and the Moo clan have been keeping Quake 2 Chaos, a mod by Chaotic Dreams, alive with frequent events. Quake2 players are reliving some of their favorite moments in one of their favorite mods.

Trixie has been involved in the Moo clan for about a decade. Chaotic Dreams member R. Flagg invited Trixie to help take charge of the newly revied Chaotic Dreams website a couple of years ago; a team that Trixie is thrilled to be a part of. With her at the helm of the official site and the MOO town server she started advertising games at tastyspleen.net and caught the eye of Planet Quake.

Inspired by the article detailing the history of Wod-X, Trixie has agreed to provide her own insight into the history of Quake 2 Chaos and what it means to her.

My connection with Q2Chaos is well rooted. I have a long history with it. ;)

I believe Q2 Chaos started back at the end of 1998. It was bustling, back in the early days! This was the time when servers were filled with a waiting list to get on. There were plenty of Chaos clans competing such as ACK!!, DRGN, TnT, TCA, MOO, FU, and KEA along with many others in this chaotic frag fest!

It was a fierce competition back then to rate highly on the CLQ ranking frag system. It became such a blur, fast paced, chaotic in every way; trying to make as many frags as one could before the frag or time limit. The mod truly lived up to it’s name, purely Chaotic!

Back in the early days of Chaos, it was the time of 56k modems, high pings along with slow computers. What a combination! Technology was still in it’s infancy and how times sure have changed!

With adding the Mod Chaos, it improved the regular Quake2 game, (imo). I liked the 3rd dimensional effect, that was achieved by using the anti-gravity belt along with the grapple to shoot one across the map. It opened the map up along with the jetpak. The jumping capability and the feeling of flying with the belt…is great. (Nothing tinkerbell about it!) If I had to pick only one item in Chaos to be my favorite, it would have to be the anti-gravity belt, hands down! I don’t think I would enjoy Chaos as much without it, truly!

We had plenty of good times and laughs with some of the Chaotic items. I always had a special fondness for the proxy mines, which I nick-named “Hoppities” They may look cute and sound harmless with their high pitched voices but don’t let that fool ya! They sorta sound like little munchkins, sporting an evil sinister grin along with their devilish maniacal laughter honing in for your demise. You’ll soon realize they’re not a pet, just because you unleashed them at foe. They don’t have any allegiance towards you and they won’t hesitate double cross you! That’s one weapon that has back-fire capabilities, so watch-out! Also along with the green grenades/arrows, it was fun to make players belch relentlessly making their screen seem like it was shaking, yet adding to the fun. ;)

Besides playing Chaos pretty religiously, I was Co-Founder of Moo. I was active and played a pretty big part in the clan. Some of my efforts went into providing a MOOsletter, accepting memberships, arranging/scheduling Chaos Clan Matches, etc. My affliation with Chaos and the clan gave me connections to good people and good times. This I will always hold dear.

I, truly, must give a lot of credit to HasBen{Moo}. He was the Creator, Founder, and Leader of Moo. He made this all possible. We wanted to provide a clan, and a haven, for less serious-minded/fun-based Chaos players that wasn’t about having a tough image, skill, etc.. Some of us played the cow or Moobull model so how serious can one be? Cows with guns! Haha! We were in the minority as far as what clans were about in those days. We had over 100 members. Even though we weren’t based on being a skill-focused clan, we won plenty of clan matches back in the day.

By the way, the MooBull model was HasBen{Moo’s} creation. He created it from the cow model. I highly regarded it as one of the better models out there, if I do say so myself. ;)

The way I feel about Chaos, even though the mod is older now, it still stands up to the test of time for fun without needing the flashy graphics used today in modern games. It still holds our interest and is a lot of fun. Sprinkle the ingredient of fun like-minded players and you have a winning combination! No need to go anywhere else. ;)

I’m also very grateful that we’re still able to relive playing Chaos, here in 2012! This all came about from a friend of mine, wanting to venture back into Q2 Chaos in 2010. So we took the necessary steps and setup a Chaos server. The rest is history. We’re still going strong, it’ll be 2 years coming up in Aug. of 2012!

Thanks goes out to the chaos friends, clan members and other folks for enabling us to relive Q2 Chaos through your participation. It couldn’t have been done without you! My deepest gratitude to all. Thank you!

So my passion for Q2Chaos runs deep! It feels like home. We’re not going away…any time soon. ;)

With the MOO clan not officially still alive, members can be seen proudly wearing their clan tag as they frag around the quake 2 scene. Their old clan site is available to get a glimpse of quake 2 history.
