In The Year 2000: QuakeCon 2K Toga Party

Everyone loves togas.

Togas, music, QuakeCon – how much better can it get? We gave you guys the chance to win tickets to one of the hottest parties that’s sure to hit QuakeCon2000 – the Artemis Software/GameSpy toga party! That’s right, half-naked people and Quake. You just can’t beat that combination.

In order to win tickets, you had to correctly match the list of Greek gods with their Roman counterparts. We didn’t give you the Roman names – you had to do a little research and get them yourself. So if you’re curious to know what those answers were, here’s the scoop!

Ares – Mars
Hermes – Mercury
Aphrodite – Venus
Kronos – Saturn (many people wrote in to tell me I spelled “Kronos” wrong, and that it’s actually “Cronos”, and that he was in fact a Titan, not a god. For those that added this little trivia bit, you geta bonus prize of…er…a shorter toga, I suppose.)
Zeus – Jupiter
Poseidon – Neptune
Artemis – Diana
Hades – Pluto
Demeter – Ceres

It’s All Greek To Me…

Enter Artemis Software and GameSpy’s contest to win a pair of tickets to the hottest party going on at QuakeCon2K!

Planning on going to QuakeCon 2000? Want a cool party to go to? Look no further, my friend – we’re giving you a chance to win two tickets to attend a party being thrown by Artemis Software and GameSpy right at QuakeCon, so you’ve got something to do on Friday night! What’s more, this isn’t some stuffy, shmoozy party – to go along with Artemis’ upcoming Greek-themed Q3A mod, we’re throwing a toga party! That’s right…you’ll actually beencouraged to walk around half-naked. Now how’s that for entertainment?

What do you have to do to win? It’s easy – and it just involves a little Greek and Roman mythology, in keeping with the toga theme.

Back in the day, when gods were a dime a dozen, the Greeks and the Romans shared similar mythologies – for every Greek god, there was a Roman counterpart. So to win your set of tickets to our toga party, you just need to be one of the first 20 people to correctly give us the Roman counterpart to each of the following Greek gods listed. Remember, you not only have to be one of the first 20 to answer, but your answers have to be correct.

And here’s the list! (To make it a little harder, we’re not going to tell you until the contest is over which god is known for what.)

Just take this list and email it with the Roman equivalents to Hellchick, along with the following information:

Your full name as it appears on your ID
How you are registered for QuakeCon (BYOC, Tourney, etc.)
a valid email address, postal address, and phone number.

The party is being held Friday night, August 4th, from 8pm to midnight at the Hampton Inn near the QuakeCon event. Contest entries must be emailed by Tuesday, August 2nd, midnight PT. We’ll contact you on Wednesday to let you know if you’ve won. Be sure and get your togas ready, and email Hellchick with those contest entries!
